Hillary Clinton spoke out against Donald Trump on Thursday night with a clear message: “Gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights.”

Clinton was speaking at the Center Dinner, a fundraising event hosted by New York City’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in Chelsea. Clinton, who was given the Trailblazer Award, spoke out against the Trump administration’s anti-LGBTQ track record, saying that she was devastated by the administration’s treatment of transgender Americans.

“When this administration rescinded protections for transgender students, my heart broke,” Clinton said during her speech. “When I learned about the proposed cuts in funding for HIV and AIDS research, I thought about all of our efforts to try and achieve an AIDS-free generation.”

Clinton also demanded the federal government speak out against the alleged gay concentration camps in Chechnya. “We’ve heard terrifying accounts from Chechnya of gay and bisexual men being taken from their homes and families, tortured, even killed,” she said. “The United States government—yes, this government—should demand an end to the persecution of innocent people across the world.”

Above all, Clinton encouraged attendees to keep fighting. “When a good friend or loved one says, ‘Quit yelling at the television set,’ just remember we need to resist, insist, persist, and enlist. And make sure our voices, and our votes, count.”
