Labor claims 41 seats in WA election

Labor has won a landslide 41 seats from the WA election, while the Liberals and the Nationals fight it out for the last undecided seat.

Joondalup, in Perth’s north, has been called in favour of Labor’s Emily Hamilton on Thursday, trumping incumbent Liberal Jan Norberger.

The Mark McGowan-led party devastated the Liberals in Saturday’s poll, removing seven ministers from their seats, and also beating the former state leader of the Nationals, Brendon Grylls, in the Pilbara.

The last undecided seat is the large regional electorate Kalgoorlie, where Liberal candidate Kyran O’Donnell is predicted to oust the Nationals Tony Crook.

Mr O’Donnell is ahead by 1398 votes, with counting was more than 78 per cent complete.

Winning Kalgoorlie will give the Liberals 13 seats, down from the 30 it held in government.
