The Queensland government has announced a new gas project for the Surat basin, which would bolster domestic supply as well as generate 350 jobs.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told state parliament QGC will partner with resource company Shell for the project.
“The Ruby Project is a new program of gas field development that involves drilling up to 161 natural gas wells to supply both domestic and LNG markets,” the premier said.
“The project will secure 350 new and existing jobs during the 16 month peak construction, and sustain QGC’s gas production as older wells come off peak production.”
The new wells will be drilled in 2017 and 2018 in QGC’s existing land, with deals currently being negotiated with neighbouring landholders for access and compensation.
