But he’s not in a rush – in fact, he seems content to drink through several “fields of barley” and sleep with any prostitute he can find.

Fortunately, girl power is on hand and Hild forces him to face his responsibilities. And when he stirs himself, he certainly gets things done, rescuing slaves, helping kings and fighting like the true warrior he is.

Meanwhile, his old boss Alfred is hell-bent on scaring off the Danes from attacking again – and to do this he’s determined to get God and a lot of scary priests on his side.

It’s great to see Jane (Stefanie Martini, above) growing as an officer as we reach the halfway mark of this gripping series, and tonight she proves her skills once again by helping to discover the identity of the mysterious ‘Tod’.

But this episode isn’t all about Jane – much of the action is focused on her colleagues as Bradfield learns that gossip about him and Tennison is spreading like wildfire.

Who knew Johnny Vegas (above) had a degree in ceramics?

The comedian appears as guest judge tonight and makes a teapot in just one minute, sort of.

As Ryan, Freya, Richard and Clover vie for a place in the final, the main make proves tricky – to create a working toilet. Will they bowl over the judges, or will their efforts get panned?

Shop Well For Less? 8pm, BBC ONE

Shop Well for Less: Alex Jones and Steph McGovern (l-r) meet “the Posh and Becks of Wrexham”, aka Wayne and Katy Williams

Shop Well for Less: Alex Jones and Steph McGovern (l-r) meet “the Posh and Becks of Wrexham”, aka Wayne and Katy Williams

Alex Jones and Steph McGovern (l-r) take “the Posh and Becks of Wrexham”, aka Wayne and Katy Williams, to task over their out-of-control spending.

Image is everything to the couple, but they’re struggling to afford the designer brands they crave, and when Katy finds her expensive eye-shadow palette has been replaced by a £4 substitute, her expression is, er, priceless.
